Thomas E. May was born in Camden, New Jersey. He
was raised and educated in the Cherry Hill School System, where he excelled
in athletics. His athletic ability awarded him an athletic scholarship to
Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. He graduated from college in
1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He then
attended American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, from
which he graduated in 1969.
He married Hazel W. May in 1969, and from
this union five children were born.
After graduating from college, Mr. May
served in the U. S. Army in Europe as the Operating Officer for the U.S.
Army Mortuary, where he was discharged at the rank of Captain. While in
Europe, Mr. May was a member of the Masonic Order to the degree of Shriner
Mr. May was trained under the direction of
the late Carl Miller of Camden, NJ in the field of Mortuary Science. He now
owns and operates the May Funeral Homes in Camden, NJ, Pennsauken, NJ,
Vineland, NJ and Willingboro, NJ. Mr. May started May Funeral Home on
his own, he is a first generation funeral director. Unlike other funeral
directors, it was not passed down to him. May Funeral Homes, Inc. is a
family run business. His wife Hazel and three of his five children, Tyrone,
Tine and Toni are in the business with him.
He has served as Investigator for the
Camden County Medical Examiners Office for several years.
Mr. May is currently a member of the
National Funeral Directors, Morticians Association and New Jersey State
Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors
Association.
He is the Assistant Pastor of the Tabernacle of Faith Church, COGIC Camden,
NJ. Thomas also serves on the Executive Board of the International Council
of Pastors and Elders of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC).
In following the scripture, to whom much is
given, much is required. Mr. May and his wife regularly participate in
philanthropic endeavors to various organizations.
Mr. May is the proud father of five
children, Tyrone, Tonya May-Avent, Terri Levy, Tina May and Toni May-Jervey
, the grandfather of eight: Jasmyne, Tyrone Jr, and Tiffany May, Kennedi
Avent, William Levy, Tarralyn Berry, Kassadi Avent and Whitney Levy.
